D (Suggestive Dialogue)
Based on a true story of an Indian immigrant couple whose lives are shattered by an unexpected hate crime in Olathe, Kansas fueled by anti-immigrant and racist rhetoric after the 2016 election. Daniel Brea is a filmmaker & entrepreneur who got his start in professional production in Switzerland after serving in the Israeli Special forces in the mid 2000's. He later moved to the USA to pursue his dream lifestyle of family, creativity, entrepreneurship & community in the perfect climate SoCal has to offer. Daniels passion is to use creativity for building, problem solving & entertaining through his films (long & short, narrative & documentary, commercial & artistic).
American Hate is a timely and relevant artistic interpretation of an unfortunate true story that unfolded not long ago in an average American city.
I was immediately drawn to the idea and felt it was my responsibility to tell this story as I’ve taken initiative and made films about stories dealing with anti-semitism, racism and the like in the past but had never considered the South Asian Indian population as one that’s also threatened by similar fear-based hatred.
I also spent a few years living in smaller cities and towns in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida before settling down in Los Angeles and have had many conversations with people who share very similar viewpoints and attitudes to the antagonist in this film.
My objective was not to make a statement about the current political climate or the divisive nature of the far left and right mindsets but to show the humanity (good or bad) on both sides of this story and let the film spark thought and discussion in the viewers because I truly believe that only through contemplation, discussion, love and empathy will we ever move toward a unified human race. As long as ignorance and fear rule, American Hate will continue to repeat itself not only here but around the world.
